Die Einladung kam aus Amerika. Ob ich nicht Lust habe, ein Online-Konzert zu besuchen? Ich musste erst mal sehen, ob das mit der Zeitverschiebung klappt, dann habe ich zugesagt: Das Format der Quest concerts ist toll. Das geht nämlich so: Zwischen den einzelnen Musikstücken, die jeweils mit -fantastischen – Selbstvorstellungen de Komponisten begannen (ein junger Schauspieler brillierte), gab es Online-Quizrunden. Und: Obwohl ich nicht mehr der Spielemensch bin, hat es Spaß gemacht, wiewohl ich mit meinem Englisch deutlich an Grenzen gestoßen bin (ein Crossword Puzzle unter Zeitdruck in der fremden Sprache – das geht dann doch nicht, auch wenn ich Englisch seit letztem Sommer täglich benutze).
Die gespielte Musik folgte für mich dem vertrauten Schema: „Man müsste mehr XXX (Name des Komponisten) hören. Natalie Vargas Nedvetsky (auf dem Foto) wusste, mit zwei Nocturnes (op. 9, no 1; op 15. no 2) und mit den Mazurkas op. 67 zu überzeugen: Lang gezogene Bögen, versetzte Rhythmen und eine Mischung aus Introvertiertheit und genauem Wissen von dem was sie tut – die auch als Poetin arbeitende Künstlerin war der gelungene Auftakt (selbst vom schlecht gestimmten Klavier abgesehen.)
Lydia Rhea bediente sich mit ihrem Cello bei Camille Saint-Saens. der „Schwan“ aus dem Karneval der Tiere, der Chant Saphique (op. 91) und das Allegro Apassionato (op. 43) standen auf ihrem Programm: im besten Sinn romantisch musiziert – schade nur, dass das Klavier aus der Retorte kam.
Schon lange wollte ich eine Solosonate von Eugène Ysaye für Geige hören: Alina Kobialka spielte die höllisch schwere zweite Sonate, eine hörbare Verbeugung vor Johann Sebastian Bach eines Komponisten, dessen „Netzwerk“ unter anderem Henri Viextemps, Henri Wieniawski und Jaques Thibaud umfasste.
Das anspruchsvolle Programm verging wie im Flug, die Musikerinnen bewegten sich auf sehr hohem Niveau, die Beteiligten nett und charmant. Ei tolles Format und ich bin gespannt, welchen Bestand es nach Corona haben wird. für mich war es der Höhepunkt des Abends – als für mich um Mitternacht Schluss war, fühlte ich mich putzmunter.

The invitation came from America. Wouldn’t I like to attend a Online-concert? First I had to see if the time difference would work, then I accepted: The format of the Quest concerts is great. And: Although I’m not the game person anymore, it was fun, although I clearly reached limits with my English (a crossword puzzle under time pressure in the foreign language – that’s not possible, even if I use English daily since last summer).
The music played followed the familiar pattern for me: „You should hear more XXX (name of the composer). Natalie Vargas Nedvetsky (on the photo) knew how to convince with two Nocturnes (op. 9, no 1; op 15. no 2) and with the Mazurkas op. 67: long drawn out bows, staggered rhythms and a mixture of introversion and exact knowledge of what she is doing – the artist, who also works as a poet, was the successful opener (even apart from the badly tuned piano).
Lydia Rhea helped herself with her cello to Camille Saint-Saens. the „Swan“ from the Carnival of the Animals, the Chant Saphique (op. 91) and the Allegro Apassionato (op. 43) were on her program: romantic music in the best sense – it’s just a pity that the piano came from a retort.
I had long wanted to hear a solo sonata by Eugène Ysaye for violin: Alina Kobialka played the hellishly difficult second sonata, an audible bow to Johann Sebastian Bach by a composer whose „network“ included Henri Viextemps, Henri Wieniawski and Jaques Thibaud.
The demanding program flew by, the musicians moved at a very high level, the participants nice and charming. A great format and I’m curious to see what kind of continuance it will have after Corona. For me it was the highlight of the evening – when it was over for me at midnight, I felt chipper.
